Thank you, all, for returning your report cards. I am sorry my computer will not let me send them by email, but it won't. Therefore I have to give you a hard copy. It saves me paer, ink and time when you return the original.
Since Lesson 33 was so long, we did it in class. I didn't think we would get through the entire chapter, but you were so on task today that we could! Thank you! It was full of information and names we couldn't pronounce. The pronunciation of names is not as important as knowing the spelling and what these people did in history. So, while we got to abbreviate their names today, please take the time to learn how to spell them! Words like: al-Andolus, Sefarad, and Cordoba as well as Tariq, Gibraltar, Abd al-Rahman, Abbasids, and Umayyads. Perfectus and Eulogius were Christians who did what?
It was interesting to see how the 3 religions lived harmoniously for a while, but then persecutions started again. We can see how the dislike and distrust between these 3 religions came about. Saladin lived during this time period. Keep him in mind as we read about the relationships between these religions!
Before you begin your timeline, take a minute to remember what I taught you on Friday last week about timelines. They must have dates listed and the dates need to be in equal segments. Then you put the pictures on your timeline where they belong. I gave you pictures to use in class today. I hope that helps if you choose to use them.
Memory Cards need to be completed also. Take a minute to remember what we talked about in class today about how to write them. Look in the front of your book at Memory Cards, if you cannot remember. Ask yourself some questions before you write the summary like: when did ___ live? Die? What were his/her accomplishments? Why is this important to history? (If it isn't a person) When did ___ happen? Why?
Your assignments are:
Wednesday 1 February 2012
1. Page 187: "All Students": Memory Cards for lessons 31-33.
2. Page 187: 33C: #1: choose c or d. Answer the questions I put on the board for you, write a short paragraph about the topic. You need to google the topic to get your answers.
Thursday 2 February 2012
1. Page 189: Wall of Fame.
2. Page 189: "Somewhere in Time": #1: Read the paragraph right before #1. I went over this briefly in class so you need to read it to understand your work. Then read #1 carefully. You are to find the latitude and longitude (coordinates) of Beaufort regardless of where you live.
Note: Please bring markers and/or colored pencils to class on Friday.
