FRIDAY MARCH 30,2012
I passed back gradesheets for and notebooks, memory cards, timelines, as well as extra credit. You also got back all papers we have worked on this semester as well as those I graded over the last 2 days. We worked on Map Skills in class. When we finished, we started on our take-home quiz. it needs to be completed and brought back to class on April 10. You may use your book to complete the quiz.
I hope all of you have a wonderful Easter season, but please remember the reason for this time of year. This is when our Lord gave up His life for our sins and not for ours alone, but the sins of the whole earth. Remember when we do something that is not right, that we cause Him as much pain as the crucifixtion did. That is a sobering thought but the truth.
Your assignments are:
Monday 9 April 2012
1. Open book Take-home Quiz. Bring back on Tuesday
2. Bring back report card, signed

FRIDAY MARCH 23, 2012
Today we finished discussing the chapter on the Vikings and their lives away from raiding. The Vikings were a monotheistic group, but they were not Christian. They had one main god, but many gods under the one most important god. They were pagans.
We turned in our History Notebooks today since this was the last day of the nine weeks. I will get your DOGs back to you on Tuesday along with your timelines, Memory Cards and several rubrics on longhouse, notebooks, extra credit projects, Memory cards, and Timelines. Tuesday starts the last nine weeks!
We did finish the movie "The Vikings" starring Kirk Douglass. This movie did portray the Vikings in such a way we could get a feel for what Rolf went through and for what the author of our history book is talking about.
Your assignments are:
Monday 26 March 2012
1.Read Lesson 41.
2. Page 228: 41C: #1. After reading the directions, "google" each country. Write the country on your paper, then write the capital next to it. Bring it to class.

FRIDAY 16 MARCH 2012
Well, today we took our second test of this nine weeks. I hope all of you studied as I suggested. Today was a little strange, or should I say "strained" with our school pictures having to be taken again, outside this time! We got through it all, though!
I assigned a project today and I need to clarify it. In order to know what should go in to the Longhouse you design, please re-read page 223 that we read today. That section really gives you a thorough description of a longhouse. Follow the directions on page 225 carefully, using the text on page 223 as a resource. (You do NOT have to have grass seed on your roof!) The longhouse is due IN CLASS on Friday March 23. You have one (1) week to work on this project so don't delay!
EXTRA CREDIT is due this Tuesday March 20. If you are planning to do the extra credit, it must come in on Tuesday. After that date, you will receive no credit.
Remember, to make the dirt stay on the roof, mix it equal parts Elmer's glue and dirt. When it makes mud, carefully apply it to the roof. Then it needs to dry. This could take 1-2 days depending on how much glue you use.
Your assignments are:
Monday March 20, 2012
1. Finish reading Lesson 40: Page 224 is all you have to read. Be prepared to answer questions on it Tuesday.
2. Pg. 225: 40B: #1: Make sure you tell your parents what you are doing and why! Bring in your whittling on Tuesday, please.
3. Project: Page 225: 40A: #1: Make a Longhouse. Due March 23, 2012.

Today we reviewed for our test on Friday. You got a review sheet with questions and in class we worked on the answers together so everyone would have the correct answers. I then made you read the questions and answers 3 times and then we reviewed without our notes. I think this helped you realize that you still needed to study and what you needed to study. I do hope that you will read the questions and answers again 3 times then get someone in your house to call out the questions to you. I EXPECT nothing less than a B from each of you on Friday! Study!!!
Your assignment is:
Wednesday/Thursday 14/15 March 2012
Study for test on lessons 37-39.
BRING IN MEMORY CARDS AND WALL OF FAME PICTURES/NOTEBOOKS ON TUESDAY MARCH 20.

I guess because we were having our pictures taken today that you were all so excited, talkative and loud! Please remember, when ou have to shout in the classroom, you are all too loud. Also, I will say again, when you talk out of turn, even to ask a friend a question, or to comment on something, it causes all of us to lose focus and that is not fair to anyone in the class. Tuesday, Ms. nicole is going to come in the classroom to talk to all of you. I had you sign the class conduct policy, but we seem to forget what it says at times.
In class today we worked on a yarn map to help us visualize where the Vikings explored, conquered, and settled. you all did a nice job on it. You should be proud!
Your assignments are:
Monday 12 MArch 2012
1. Pg. 218: SomeWhere in Time:#1. Bring to class tomorrow.

Today we watched "The Vikings" by NOVA. It was pretty interesting, but the best part was the popcorn! I wonder why I had to pick up so many kernals after history today?!? Hmmm...
Tonight you need to remember 5 things that were very "new" to you, as in, you had not heard that before! I think most of you took enough notes to be able to do this assignment with ease! Don't forget to work on your "Wall Of Fame." If you have not done so, please label your timelines like I explained to you in class several weeks ago. Come up with an equal dividing point such as, 25, 50, or 100 and then write the years on your timeline. Do this before you paste your pictures on the timeline so taht you will know exactly where they go!
Don't forget to bring your colored pencils, markers, or crayons on Friday!
Your assignments are:
Wednesday 7 March 2012
1. Work on your "Wall of Fame" for lessons 37-39 Page 218. If you need the pictures, let me know and I will try to email them to you!
Thursday 8 March 2012
1. Write 5 facts you never knew before watching the video on "The Vikings." Just list them.
BRING COLORED PENCILS TO CLASS!

Today we reviewed Lesson 38 which was on The Arabian Nights. One thing I asked you to be able to do was to tell the differences and similarities between the author's account in our history books and the actual book we are reading. Remember that the history book is a summary, so this task should not be very difficult. Please discuss this with your teaching parent.
Then we read Lesson 39 on The Vikings. We learned of three main Viking groups from the Scandinavian countries. Please review this lesson. At least look at what I had you underline in BOTH lessons.
In order to do your homework, you must "google" "midnight sun", "seasons in scandinavian countries", "winter/summer in Norway/Sweden/Denmark" or something similar. After researching the question, then list the 10 interesting facts you learned. Please bring that to class Tuesday.
Test will be on March 16.
Your assignments are:
Monday 5 March 2012
1.Memory Cards: pg. 217 for lessons 37-39. DO NOT BRING THEM TO CLASS!!
2. Pg. 217:39B:#1. Write the list, bring to class. Remember to tell what season you are writing about.
3. Review Lessons 38 & 39.
