Classroom Assignments

Today, I collected the homework assigned and any "late" work. Then we watched "Camelot" and I was very impressed at how you guys really TRIED to hide you disgust at the musical! Musicals are really a good way to present something and luckily Lerner and Loew were adept at writing catchy tunes. I hope you took notof the costumes, the scenery and the people presented. it is quite a contrast with the video "The Dark Ages." Keep that in mind as you go in to the next part of this grading period. It is extemely important!
You have some homework for Monday November 28.
I hope each and very one of you has a wonderfully blessed Thanksgiving and that the real reason for the day is to be thankful for all our blessings. I think we have a greater understanding of how blessed we are after reading about all the persecutions and evils of the first century as well as what is going on in the world today!
Don't eat too much!
Your assignments are:
28 November 2011
1."Alaric the Visogoth" worksheet: a. define the two vocabulary words.
b. answer questions 4-6. (Remember the video "The Dark Ages"
where they talked about his conquering of Rome)
Use the Internet to get theanswers to the questions if you need to. Just "google" Alaric.

Class assignments
15 November 2011
Where does the time go? We got much accomplished today, but we have so much yet to do! After we corrected our maps and crossqword puzzles, we began the task of creating a Medieval Castle. We each got a part of the castle to assemble. We have lots more to do. We will get back to it after Thanksgiving. I was so proud of all of you for having completed the Memory Cards and the Wall of Fame by today. I really appreciate the ones you brought to class even though thye are not due for another 4-5 weeks! At least we all know we are doing the work on time, right? We did not get a chance to present our persuasion speeches or our sports announcements. We will try to do that on Friday. Come prepared, please.
On Friday we are going to watch the entire DVD of "Camelot." I think you will enjoy it. There is some singing in it. I might fast forward through it, but I am not promising anything! I mainly want you to see the costumes and the scenery. It will help you visualize A Connecticut Yankee.. better to see this movie. I might even bring you some popcorn!
Your assignments are:
16 November 2011
1. Color the castle picture. Label your part.
2. Describe what you did in class today: What is your part called?
Where is it located on the castle or grounds?
What is its importance? (use)
Write a paragraph using the questions above.
3. Classroom Law Code: Read the page on the code and answer the questions that follow. Answer in
complete sentences.
17 November 2011
1. Pg. 135: Answer on a separate sheet of paper.

Let your parents know that we are going to the Veteran's Day parade on Friday. We will be helping the children in Mrs. Machtley's class walk to the parade. Class Assitnments
Friday 4 November 2011
The church bazaar is over! We can get back to normal again! Sarah, I hope you had a wonderful birthday and that you girls did not drive your mother crazy!!!
We got our report cards today. They were placed in sealed envelopes for the parents. Make sure your parents get them, sign them, and you bring them back on Tuesday, please. You get extra credit for this and it is a 100 daily grade. Don't forget!
Today we watched "The Dark Ages" in class. It is a History Channel documentary, and it is very informative. It gave us an accurate picture of how different these times are from ours. Some of it was pretty gruesome. We need to be thankful we didn't live in those times!
Remember on your homework on the duties of the page, squire, and knight: DO NOT MAKE ANY MISTAKES! You can write it in pencil on the colored paper and then trace it in black pen, but then erase it GENTLY so the pencil marks don't show up. I will count off for any scratch overs or mistakes. Be careful!
For the last part, I would write it out on paper first before writing it in the box.
The homework assignment is:
8 November 2011
1. Get report cards signed.
2. Re-read Lesson 23.
3. Pg. 127: 23B: #2: You each got a piece of colored paper Friday. Read the directions on page 127 again. Using a BLACK pen, transfer your information to the colored paper AFTER you have made complete sentences of your lists then made those sentences in to paragraphs. Label each box with a title. Make sure you have all the duties of each one!
4. In the fourth square, which should be blank, answer this question: Which would you choose to be and why?

I enjoyed our discussion in class today. As long as you don't all talk at the same time or amongst yourselves then we can do that more often. It is up to you! Don't get mad at me, but I need for you to read Lesson 23. I cannot find anywhere that I told you to read it before so I am telling you, now, to read it, please. It is about King Arthur and his round table and I think you will enjoy it. Sarah, make sure you do the "hour candle," please.
Please bring a BLACK writing pen to class on Friday.
You will get your report cards in class on Friday.

Classroom assignments
Tuesday 25 October 2011
You guys had good questions about your test papers. I hope you have a better understanding of what I was looking for in your answers. For the most part, you guys are really doing well. Remember, one grade does not cause you to fail for the nine weeks. Now, if you have not been doing your best, then you may have something to worry about. But if you have been keeping up and getting pretty good grades then this one grade will not hurt you. This book is much harder than last year's book we used in History. You are really going to have to put forth a great deal of effort to make the grades you got last year.
The entire class did a super job with the "Who am I?" paper. Some of you even stumped the entire class! Way to go! I liked the fact that you didn't all choose Obama, which was the easist way to complete this assignment. Some of you really put the effort needed to do this assignment well. I thank you for that.
Friday is the last day of this nine weeks. If you are missing any work, you need to get it in Friday or that grade will remain a zero. Also, if you have not done your Wall of Fame assignment for Lessons 19-21, you need to get that done this week. Also, if you have not done your Memory Cards for Lessons 19-21, you need to get those done too. Check your lessons to see what you are supposed to be writing on these 2 assignments. These will go on the next nine weeks, but you don't want to get caught like what happened this nine weeks. You will not be getting extra days this nine weeks to complete assignments you have been given all along.
Your next assignments are:
Wednesday and Thursday 26-27 October 2011
1. "SomeWhere in Time" Pages 103-104.
2. Read from #1 to "Materials." We did this in class, but you need to read it again.
3. Using Map # 10: do A only. Use colored pencils. Also, label each country before you color. I need
to be able to read the country, also.
4. Page 104: #2: Read and follow directions for A-E. Don't forget to put your "Map Key" in your map
too. Use the maps in your Bible for reference if you do not have a historical atlas.
You may also use the Internet. Just type in Roman Empire.
You guys had good questions about your test papers. I hope you have a better understanding of what I was looking for in your answers. For the most part, you guys are really doing well. Remember, one grade does not cause you to fail for the nine weeks. Now, if you have not been doing your best, then you may have something to worry about. Class assignments
Friday 21 October 2011
Today we went in to the choir room and learned about several songs that have been attributed to St. Patrick. Mrs. Pat Gould, organist for The Parish Church of St. Helena, taught us the melody, rhythmn and words to these songs. The two main hymns were "I Bind Unto Myself " and "Christ Beside Me". We were joined in this lesson by Mrs. Mixon's class who are studying St. Patrick also. Mrs. Pat gave us some history on these hymns as well as the history of the melodies. Tell your parents what a "breastplate prayer" is and why it is so important. I think they will be amazed at your knowledge!!
Your assignments are:
Tuesday 25 October 2011
1. Read Lesson 21.
2. Do page 102:21C: #1&2. Remember, with #1, all you have to do is read the Activity
Supplement found on page 574 of your textbook, then compile the answers
to the questions from pg.102 in your head for Tuesday. For #2, you must
write the paper, then put it in your notebook behind the correct tab.
3. Make Memory Cards for Lessons 19-21. Pg. 101
3. Do: all the work you are missing such as Memory Cards 1-18, as well as the Wall of Fame
1-18, as well as what you are missing from your notebook requirement.
Bring colored pencils to class on Tuesday.

Class Assignment
Tuesday October 18, 2011
Today we corrected our maps on North Africa, then we read the lesson on Jerome and The Vulgate. We discussed the Bible verses at the end of the lesson. Then we took the test for Lessons 16-18. I took the history notebooks up. Yu will get them back on Friday. Mrs. Stack, Elijah's mom, made copies for us of the characters that we should be putting on our "Wall of Fame" walls or in our booklets we are working on. Remember these are due Tuesday October 25. I will not be taking those up any later than that so please be working on them. Also, your memory cards are due to me that day. All of this information is in your textbook and has been posted on the blog as well as you should have written it down in class when I have put it on the board. I went back to all my lesson plans and I have been very good about letting you know when you should have been working on these things. I am so sorry you didn't take me seriously. Please let me say that if you put any of this work off, you will not be able to get it all done. I am going to keep moving forward; you need to make up your mind to keep up.
The Internet work for Wednesday: remember to go to Google and type in "druids" or "history of Halloween" to get to something to read. Then from that reading, write your paper. Some of you finished pg. 93 in class and started reading Lesson 19. Take up where you left off. The rest of you get it done!
I didn't get a chance to tell you that on Friday we are going in to the choir room with Mrs. Pat Gould, the organist at St. Helena's. She is going to teach us 2 songs St. Patrick wrote. I think you will really like Ms. Pat. Please be on your best behavior. We will be joined by Mrs. Mixon and her class. So, bring your singing voices to class on Friday!
Your assignments are:
Wednesday 19 October 2011
1. Do page 93 on a separate sheet of paper. Just write the missing words.
2. Read Lesson 19: "St. Patrick...".
3. Do page 96: 19C: use the Internet. Write a paper describing what you learned.
Thursday 20 October 2011
1. Read Lesson 20.
2. Do page 98: 20C: Read the description I gave you on Attila the Hun. Then write a description of a modern-day "leader". This person can be religious, secular, or political. Do NOT tell anyone who your paper is about. We will try to guess your person on Friday.

Class Assignments
Friday October 14, 2011
We worked on map work today in class. I will be posting these maps in the classroom if you would like to come by and see them. The "Wall of Fame" needs to be kept up daily. If you cannot keep up with it daily, at least do it weekly and at the lesson time it is presented. By the same token, you should be completing the "Memory Cards" as soon as the author gives you the instructions to do so. Both of these instructions occur at the end of at least 3 lessons, usually before a test. The cards are given as an assignment at the end of lessons usually. You need to be looking for these and completing them. I thought I had made this clear at the beginning of the year, but apparently I didn't. So I am trying to make it very clear now.
The assignments are:
Tuesday 18 October 2011
1. Get notebooks in order
2. Study for test Chapter 16-18
3. Pg. 90-91: #2: Do A-F. Remember to use your colored pencils so we can read the name of the countries in Africa.
NOTE:
"Wall of Fame" and "Memory Cards" will NOT be due until Tuesday October 24, 2011.

10 October 2011
I gave back the tests we took last week. They were not very good at all. Even after curving them, the grades on some were still horrible. SO, on a separate sheet of paper, correct the questions you missed. USE YOUR BOOK!!! Bring both the test and your corrections to class on Friday for another grade. Rewrite the Chocolate paper correcting your mistakes. Bring all 3 papers to class on Friday: the one I wrote in orange all over, the typed or written in ink one as well as this one you are writing. Some of you didn't turn in the one I wrote all over. You need to find it and turn it in also. Make sure you file all the papers I gave back to you in your History notebook. Look in the activities pages of the lesson the papers are on and it should tell you where to file them. Otherwise, see where the paper is referring to and put it in that section. Have all of them filed by Friday. We reviewed lesson 16 in class today and read lesson 17. I gave each of you an excerpt on St. Augustine's Confessions today. You need to read it before you begin your paper on it. Think about what you are reading and ask yourself where you may have heard that before and how it relates to your life.
Your assignments are:
11 October 2011
1. Read Lesson 18.
2. Page 82: 16B: #1 OR

12 October 2011
1. Read "The Confessions...".
2. Tell me what is meant by each of the following statements and provide examples to prove your
point:
He made us!
They are not well in their wits to whom anything which Thou hast created is displeasing.
In Thy gift we rest.
In Thy good pleasure lies our peace.
What do each of these statements mean?

OK. On this blog and the other one you have to click on the "2011" on the right side of the blog and it will show you this week and last Tuesday. I just did it on the other blog. I hope you and your parents can find the latest blogs! Actually, for this blog it will show you three (3) previous blogs! However, I am not promising anything!
Today in class we did Map Work. The first activity was to make a visual of the three cities that are known as Byzantium. We made a trifold seen on page 76. Next we worked on India and the countries that surround it, their capitals, major cities and rivers. I forgot to get you to make the map Key, so we will have to finish them on Tuesday! That was the reason I made you use all the different colors! We are going to spend some more time learning about this Byzntium empire because it is vitally important to the world's history! Today's lessons were lessons on following directions. One thing we learned is that if we are talking, it is very hard to pay attention to the directions and the teacher! Some of us got behind then didn't exactly do our activities correctly. These will be graded so from now on, you might want to pay a little more attention to your work!
Here are your assignments for Monday:
Tuesday 11 October 2011
1. Page 78: "What Did You Miss?" put the answers on a separate sheet of paper. (Yes, Sarah, you
may copy the page!)
2. Page 79: "What Do You Know?" put answers on a separate sheet of paper.
3. Read Lesson 16: "The Maya"

We took our test today in History. We reviewed the lesson on Diocletian. What an incredible emperor he turned out to be! And not always in a nice way either! Students, it has been brought to my attention that maybe you need some help organizing your time on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. I talked with Ms. Stellena today and we may be having a conversation with you one day next week during lunch. None of your teachers feels that you are getting more than an hours' work for any given day; so if you are finding that you cannot get all your work done by thetime it is due, then maybe you need help with organizing your time. One thing you must keep in front of you: Monday through Friday are school days with Homework. That should come first, then your extracurricula activities. We will talk with Ms. Nicole and see what we ought to do. I will get back to you on this.
Another thing that has come up: how to keep our assignments up on the blog for an extended period of time. I am working on this. I am NOT computer literate so this is a challenge! I will try to figure this out this weekend. Noah, you said you would ask your Mom. Let me know w hat she says. I will also talk to Ms. Barbara. I know she knows how to do this. MAybe she can tell me tonight at Bible Study. I will ask her. Now, if someone would like to teach me how to type!!! :) Stay tuned! There may be changes coming!!!
Here are your assignments:
Homework
Wednesday 5 October 2011
1. Pg. 71: 14C: Write 4 paragraphs answering the questions posed in 14C. Each paragraph should
have at least 7 sentences. Write the final copy in ink, please, or type it. Remember, I
cannot print your work, so if your printer doesn't work, then write it in ink.
2. Read Lesson 15.
3. Memory Cards: Lessons 13-15.
Thursday 6 October
